I Loved You

I loved you, like the wind beneath my wings, And I cherished you like you were my treasure, It was like each breath I took depended on you, And our happiness too much to measure.
I loved you, like a child loves a security blanket, Wrapped in an encompassing sense of safety. I thought I’d have you always by my side, Now and till we were well past eighty.
I loved you, like a flower blooms toward the sun, Seeking your presence through all the days. How was I ever supposed to know That one day, we’d part our separate ways.
I loved you, like the moon circles the earth, And the earth rotates around the sun. You were my whole world but then, All of a sudden, we were done.
