I Looked Up to Find the Wild Iris Had Bloomed
A poem drafted on a hard day

I looked up to find the wild iris had bloomed.
They were not there yesterday — or maybe they were, and my eyes were closed. Maybe I was sleeping.
No matter — they are there now, outside my window: purple, yellow, white — Mama hummingbird perched in her branch above, and all consider the breeze and then steady.
At day’s end, they close their petals and their wings — and they sleep, too.
Thank you for reading. I wrote this as a reminder for me to seek out rest. I hope it supports you a bit, too.
