I Live In A Country That Hates Nipples
How one nipple changed The Super Bowl forever
All it took was one nipple. One nipple for Janet Jackson to be painted as public enemy number one. It was all due to her Superbowl performance in 2004. Amazing isn’t it? She didn’t kill anyone but was still made out to be the bad guy. Nipples aren’t anything new. A woman has nipples, men have them. They’re not even meant for sexual pleasure but are udders on our chests.
Janet was performing at the Super Bowl when featured artist Justin Timberlake, ripped her shirt off and revealed Janet’s nipple. Yes, I said nipple. While Janet suffered a major backlash. Justin was not only able to escape scot-free but the ordeal catapulted his career.
In the documentary Framing Britney Spears, Generation Z brought forth a discussion on how the media treats women. If you remember the early 2000s Britney Spears was front and center of every magazine. Her virginity became a topic of discussion after her breakup with Justin.
Janet and Britney were publicly humiliated and villainized. They never hurt anyone. What happened to Janet was a simple slip of the nipple. Britney did what any person does when they’re in love with someone. They have sex.
If it were the other way around, and it was Justin’s nipple shown he wouldn’t have received the same treatment. He admitted he had sex, and there was no outrage on his part.
Say it with me now. Nipples. Women have nipples. Women have sex. Let’s not embarrass women for what they choose or didn’t choose to do with their bodies.
