I Launched My 3rd Digital Product on Gumroad — Here’s What I Learned

10 sales and $$$ in a few hours.

If you’ve been following me for a while, you might know I launched my first digital product, an SEO ebook, in April 2021.

Back then, I did not know whether my efforts would pay off.

To tell you the truth, I wrote an ebook because every writer on Medium talked about selling digital products. It seemed like a great income source, so I gave it a try.

Today, I can confidently say my SEO ebook on “How to write content that hits the Google front page” is a success story.

Without active promotion and partnership, I’ve sold over 220 copies and made $6,500+ from that ebook alone.

In total, I’ve made $8,200+ from selling digital products on Gumroad.

My ebook sales on Gumroad

In my opinion, it’s a pretty good result. I could earn more, but that would require my active involvement.

At this point, I don’t do almost anything to actively promote my ebooks (except for the Black Friday campaign). Nevertheless, I make 1–2 ebook sales daily.

I’ve realized that selling ebooks is an overlooked strategy and an extra income source that I should scale up.

With that, I still dedicate most of my time to client work, which is always temporary. If well-paying clients are gone, I must replace them with new ones, which takes time.

That’s why I’m slowly shifting my mindset towards working less but making more using unconventional methods. It seems logical since prices go up worldwide, and salaries will never be able to catch up.

This was a long introduction, but it was necessary to convey that my principal value in life is freedom.

Now, let me share how I launched my third digital product and what I learned.

My 3rd paid product on Gumroad

If you check my Gumroad profile page, you’ll notice I’ve been selling two ebooks on very different topics.

One ebook teaches how to create content that ranks high on Google.

While the second one is about how to make money on Gumroad.

Since they are different, I faced challenges creating and selling bundles.

I realized I could make money with my digital products by following the “value ladder” principle, where each offer is a logical continuation of the previous one but at a higher price.

I believe I reached the second level — the Initial Offer.

In other words, I offer affordable digital products about SEO, helping people grow their websites in organic search results.

Besides my SEO guide, I now offer an SEO checklist for new websites.

It’s my third paid digital product I am now selling on Gumroad.

It’s a 30-page checklist with actionable tips on what website owners should do right after launching a new website to rank on Google.

Unlike many articles on the web, this checklist does not have any fluff. I share my SEO experience of what I do to grow my website and clients’ websites.

I launched it this Halloween with a generous offer for my email subscribers. The response was phenomenal.

My SEO checklist sales right after launching it.

Here is what I’ve learned after launching my third digital product

  1. If you build a loyal audience, they will listen to you and buy your products no matter what.
  2. The amount of your sales will depend on your audience size.
  • How many people have got my newsletter with a promo offer: 1,717
  • How many people clicked on the offer: 72
  • How many sales I’ve made: 10

So, the conversion rate from a viewer to a buyer is 13,88%. However, I would have made more sales if my email list size was bigger.

3. The quality bar increases with every new product. So, ensure your new product has additional value for your target audience.

4. A new product should complement the previous products you’ve launched. This way, you can create bundles and earn more.

For instance, I could offer my SEO ebook ($29.99) and SEO checklist ($14.99) as a bundle for $35.99 instead of $44.98.

This way, I could earn more by serving people with a lucrative offer. It’s just one example! The more SEO-related products I have, the more buddles I can make.

5. Don’t miss out on the holiday season!

Regardless of your niche, your target audience is waiting for lucrative offers. Either you or your competitors will make money in the upcoming holidays. Think about it and start preparing your offer in advance!

In conclusion

I want to conclude my article with a story.

I once got an email with a question: “Is there any other investment required besides buying your book?”

No, I did not make an extra sale that day. However, I was honest in explaining that everything requires time and energy to generate results.

Buying an ebook or a digital course gives you an accelerated path to success, where you can avoid mistakes you could have made otherwise.

However, it’s you who must take the first step forward towards your success.

If you’ve ever wanted to launch an ebook — do it! You are not late to the party! Perhaps your ebook will be the next success story.
