Unspoken love

I Know He Loves Me

He just has trouble showing it

Photo by Nick Fewings on Unsplash

We move soundlessly in the same space, passing each other like stars in the night sky.

He moved in suddenly…lustily. I learned to accept and adore his quirks.

Now we talk only at meal times, when he has a lot to say. He speaks with humor and affection.

We touch…occasionally. I massage and caress, and he murmurs his happiness. He reaches out, then quickly retreats.

I remember when he would fall asleep in my arms, fully trusting and satisfied. And I felt his wordless love.

I catch his eye across the room. What is he thinking? He is inscrutable.

He lashes out. Then redeems himself with gentleness.

He doesn’t come to bed anymore. He has things to do. He doesn’t want to be confined.

He wanders. He needs love from others.

Yet…I know he loves me.

Such is life with a tomcat.
