Summary

The article discusses the controversy surrounding NBA player James Harden's playing style, particularly his ability to manipulate referees to gain an unfair advantage in free throw attempts.

Abstract

The content reflects on the public's perception of James Harden's basketball tactics, which many believe involve deceiving referees to earn undeserved foul calls, especially on three-point shots. This has led to a significant number of 4-point plays for Harden, surpassing the career totals of most other players. The article suggests that Harden's behavior is indicative of a broader issue with NBA rules and officiating. It also humorously compares Harden's situation to other public figures who have been criticized for their actions, implying that Harden's complaints about unfair treatment are unjustified.

Opinions

  • The author implies that James Harden is a master manipulator of NBA referees, which is evident from his league-leading free throw attempts.
  • There is a sentiment that the NBA's rules or their enforcement are flawed, as they allow players like Harden to exploit them.
  • The article satirically suggests that Harden's complaints about unfair treatment are exaggerated by comparing him to other controversial figures who have also claimed to be misunderstood or wronged.
  • The author believes that Harden's techniques are not just skillful plays but rather deceptive practices that give him an unfair edge over his opponents.
  • By presenting statistical evidence of Harden's 4-point plays compared to other players' career totals, the author reinforces the opinion that Harden's success is largely due to his ability to deceive referees rather than pure skill.
NBA fans throughout the world are holding candlelit vigils for this victim of abuse.

“I just want a fair chance, man”

It turns out, there’s another Meme team. When things go wrong, just tell the press that James Harden sent you.

After hearing James Harden and the Houston Rockets whine about all the calls that went against him, my first reaction was to show one of his typical plays, in which he commits an offensive foul, but tricks the refs into giving him three free throws.

But then I thought I should provide statistical proof of how much Harden manipulates the refs, allowing him to lead the league in free throw attempts for the last few years.

One website, NBA Miner, tracked all the 4-point plays this season. Harden had 20, to go along with 75 other fouls on three point shots this season. Curry, who is a more dangerous shooter and has more people contest his shot only had 8 of these plays. Here’s an article on 4-point plays, dating back to 2016, that gave the following list for career leaders in this statistic:

  1. Jamal Crawford — 47
  2. JJ Redick — 25
  3. Reggie Miller — 23
  4. Kobe Bryant — 17
  5. Steph Curry — 15

The fact that Harden had more 4-point plays this season than everyone but the top three players over their entire career shows something is really wrong with the rules, the referees, and especially Harden, who keeps inventing techniques to trick the refs into calling fouls.

Just quoting Harden and the rest of the Rockets could be turned into an episode of Game of Zones.

But I was wrong.

James Harden’s treatment has been cruel and unjust, and he must have a point, because I found a ton of people on the internet who hope to get the same consideration and compassion Harden deserves.

Lauer: “Female employees wanted that door locking button so we wouldn’t be interrupted.”
Luis Suarez: “Why did that other player attack my teeth with his neck?”
Martin Shkreli: “Pharma Bro’s gotta make a living, dude.”
Putin: “Why did those reporters commit suicide to make me look bad?”
The original Knight King: “The fire marshal said we had to reduce the number of seats in the gym.”
The other Night King: “All I wanted to do was talk to my friend Bran.”
Believe me, when you’re got billions and billions of dollars, those pussies just jumped into my yuuuge hands. Why do people have to make such a deal about it? Sad.
