In just 12 days too!
The header image shows my max 30-day views a bit before 23:00 p.m. but those are not the max daily views of November 12. The day maxed out right before midnight at 703 views.
Due to EU’s daylight savings Medium’s stats now operate on three different clocks, at least for us in Europe. Each 30-day period ends at 23:00, each day ends at midnight, and the day of each individual article ends at 2:00 a.m.
I get the discrepancy between the first two. For the first 30 days after our clocks in Europe went 1 hour back the 30-day stats are mixed between the old and the new time. So on Nov 29 they’ll be brought back together.
But for now the individual article stats remain a mystery to me. Why do article stats recycle every day at 2:00 a.m. local time (San Francisco 16:00 p.m. of the previous day)? 🤔
Anyway, some mysteries are nice to have. Let’s get back to numbers. The reason I broke through the $100 barrier in just 12 days, with some change to spare, and thus entered the unofficial 🌟Top 7% Club🌟, was this little 4-min read story:
Out of the more than $100 -screenshot at the end- I earned this month this story alone earned a whopping 66% ($76.18), with $83.13 earned in total. 2,200+ views and 50+ hours read time, with 477 views and 11+ hours read time just from Nov 12:
After reaching a nice peak on Nov 2 — Nov 3 it started losing steam from Nov 6, so I thought it would soon fizzle. Based on that and the performance of my other stories I expected to join the 🌟$100 Club🌟 between Nov 15 and Nov 17. I was sure it would be Nov 15 at the earliest.
So joining it with the earnings of just the first 12 days of November was a very pleasant surprise, to put it mildly. The Fractions plug-in says that on Nov 12 I earned $22.19, but I actually earned $24. In just one day!
I fully expect, of course, that the algorithm and/or many of my readers might ditch my words at any moment, so I enjoy this success with cautious optimism, bracing myself for the potential fall, to avoid disappointment.
But, for now, I pop a virtual 🍾. It’s not every morning for someone who was at <$50 by this time of the month to be greeted by this:
Who knows, at the end of the month I might pop a real one too. If I also add the $24 I was kindly tipped on Ko-fi (🙏) I earned $140 in total this month. I closed October with $95, and that was my best month. Not too shabby I think. But the month is still young 😊
That will be all fellow readers and writers. I do not know about you but for me at least Medium currently works. When/if the algorithm shuns me I will probably switch to grumpy mode, but for now I’m good.
