I Hope To Be the Person That My Dog Believes Me To Be
so first I must love unconditionally!

The finest thing that anyone could possibly do is to love unconditionally. I could not have a better teacher than my 8-year-old retired racer Greyhound, Oreo.
Does she like everything that I do? Not really. Is she happy most of the time? Absolutely! When is she sad? When she sees me getting ready to leave and not putting her harness on her.
When I return, even if I am late, she greets me with joy and utter glee. Each and every time! There are times when I am doing something in the same room as her and maybe not paying close attention to her.
Maybe she will be trying to get my attention by tossing one of her toys, I may be busy and tell her to stop it. Then, I will continue whatever project I had been working on.
After a short time, I will look for her and discover her staring at me with those big, brown puppy-dog eyes filled with obvious love. It melts old crusty here instantly!
When she then “asks” for something, like attention, how can I possibly deny her? I admit it. I can’t. She has me wrapped around her paw!
Now, what is wrong with this? Not a thing, that I can tell. Besides the warm feelings that I have for her, I want to be more like her. I want to be quick to forgive and ready to love at the drop of a hat from anyone.
Why, you might ask? ’cause. Just ‘cause! ’cause my Higher Power, who I choose to call God, wishes me to. How do I know this? Because God is communicating to me through Oreo and every other being in the universe.
He is showing me through Oreo that forgiveness and gratitude bring happiness, joy, and freedom. This is what I want so why not JUST DO IT? Since it works for Oreo, why can’t it work for me?
Oh, but it will and does work for me if I only let it. Thank you, God!
