I Have Major Beef Overcooked Video Editing
You don’t need to learn editing to post videos online

I spent 3 hours on Friday looking over Discord servers for video editors.
And let me say the quality of editors out there is slim. It is not a saturated niche — if you want to make money editing videos, you’ve picked the right industry.
My biggest problem is so many editors get too fancy because they pump the video full of:
- Stock footage that doesn’t make sense
- Glowing text you can barely read
- Iman Gadzhi-style animation
- Unnecessary pop-ups
In the end, I forgot what the point of the video was. They miss the point of the edit: to add to the video, not to try to save it.
A good video is about 4 things (in this order):
- It is a solid idea that the viewer wants to watch
- Delivery on the promise stated in the title or hook
- Quality video and audio that makes for a pleasant viewing experience
- Simple but quality editing to take the viewer through the video
Editing is dead last on the totem pole, which is a good sign for you when you start making your own videos.
While editing is the least important part, it’s also the hardest to learn. So what if we took it (mostly) out of the equation?
Editing is meant to put everything together, but without an idea, video filming skills, and delivering on the promise, the edit doesn’t matter. So my suggestion is to keep things simple.
The perfect example
There are people who’ve blown up on social media just for talking while they walk.
As a viewer, it makes you feel like you’re there with them, joining them during a part of their day. It’s personal, and there isn’t any editing besides double-checking the auto-generated captions.
Even in my career, some of our most important ads and other videos rarely use stock footage, let alone animations and effects.
If you’re scared to get into video because of editing or think you’ll need to pay a lot of money for an editor, think again.
🚨 Mark Manson, Dan Koe, and other successful online writers use video content to grow their audiences, and their strategy is simple.
