I have Hope Because Views & Reads Match On One of My Medium Articles
In keeping with my recent determination to look for the positive, to search for the silver lining, and to be upbeat: my own stats showed me the way on this particular Sunday
My Medium stats are not exactly breaking the bank — yet neither are they without solace. I try to write meaningful articles, sometimes trying to give some help to readers and other times trying to prompt and provoke critical thinking. The stats will get better with time, I suspect; and there’s always becoming a better writer — which is all on me.
But right now, I am SO very happy and full of Hope about a small subset of my stats. Right now I have exactly two articles with a 100% view-to-reads ratio. While there are some other articles with this ratio creeping upwards of 60 and even to 79%, only these two articles are at 100%.
But my happiness and my Hope is all about just one of the articles published in Illumination. The title is One Reason Why America Will Not be Solving Prejudice and Discrimination Issues Anytime Soon. There are 24 Views and 24 Reads, and I am over the moon about that one stat.
If you read my articles you know that hate, prejudice and discrimination is something that hurts me to the soul, really pisses me off, and gets me down. I rail about it; I write about it; I pray and meditate about it; and I try to have Hope about it. And that article was about as real and heartfelt and deep from my soul as any I’ve written on Medium, even though it was based on the reading of an article and not personal experience.
And 100% of the people who viewed it also read it! That is absolutely huge and meaningful to me. There is little I can do to combat hate, and prejudice and discrimination other than to speak out by voice or in writing. This is my chosen way — and every view equated to a read! That is what really gives me Hope this day.
My only other article with a 100% view-to-read ratio is called Some Things I’ve Learned Since Writing for Medium, also in Illumination. That’s a 25/25 view/reads. I’m happy about that one as well, but must mention a small issue. One of the points raised in that article was that about the “duplicate content” policy, which one of my articles submitted to Illumination allegedly violated.
My article “Some Things…” explains why it did not; yet that previous article still remains unpublished by Illumination. Why do I bring it up here? The only thing I can think of that my submitted and non-published article did that I can conceive as a problem was referring to an earlier article published (not in any publication) and providing a link in the submitted article to the earlier work, for ease of reference. And so this explains why I do not simply provide a link in this article to my earlier one.
I remain confused and dissatisfied (unsatisfied?) on the issue, since nobody has ever responded to my queries, and confusion remains.
But I don’t care right now! Nothing will undermine the Hope I feel because of the 100% ratio of the other article. That absolutely made my Sunday.
