I have had a few nice cars in this lifetime. Dearest to my heart would be my black, Spider Veloce, with its literally and figuratively wooden steering wheel (without power steering), and a wood-knob atop the stick. It ran great (surprising for that car) for 7 years until it was started up cold after sitting in a garage for a few winter months and something in the engine popped. A favorite memory — I brought it to college sophomore year and about 10 friends climbed in and on and I drove it onto U Penn's campus and down Locust Walk, including over the Locust Walk Bridge, parking it outside the Palladium where we were all hanging out and enjoying cocktails and reuniting with friends on a warm September night. Pamela Busch, were you there that night? One of the "passengers" was my dear friend Patrick Steel, the CEO of POLITICO.
