I have been studying the history of architecture for a long time, and I can confirm with all certainty that there is something wrong with the current architectural profession. Indeed the profession itself is dying out. So here is what we need to do:
1) We need to find a way to make buildings – old and new – more sustainable in every way. For example, we should use mass-produced materials that are recyclable, biodegradable, and reusable. At the same time, these materials should be easy to transport and assemble.
2) We need to find a way to optimize the construction system as much as possible so that it uses fewer resources and has less impact on the environment. Again, this is primarily about prefabrication: for example, concrete is produced in one place and then moved to construction sites, where it is assembled into building structures.
3) We need to find a way to create more efficient buildings and require less energy consumption. This is a combination of what you are saying: we can use AI-based strategies to decide the building's operation and optimization.
4) Finally, we need to find a way to use "less is more" ideas. That is, we can create beautiful buildings using elementary solutions.
Dariusz Gross #DATAsculptor, thank you for the story, and I look forward to your next Arch-article!
