Summary

The author expresses deep concern that the re-election of Donald Trump could lead to the invalidation of their same-sex marriage and a rollback of LGBTQ rights, amidst broader fears about the future of American democracy and the suppression of minority voting rights.

Abstract

On their anniversary, the author is troubled by the prospect that Donald Trump's potential re-election could jeopardize their marriage, reflecting a broader unease about the prevalence of racism and hate in America. They highlight the Trump administration's policies, such as the separation of immigrant families and the undermining of the US Postal Service, as indicators of the threat to democratic values and the right to vote, particularly for Blacks and people of color. The author points out the inaction of Democrats in the face of administration corruption and the challenges faced by the LGBTQ community due to the Republican platform's stance against same-sex marriage and support for discrimination based on "Christian" values. Despite positive polling for Joe Biden, the author remains skeptical, recalling the 2016 election's outcome and the necessity for a decisive victory to prevent Trump from clinging to power and potentially destroying the country.

Opinions

  • The author feels that Trump's re-election could endanger their same-sex marriage and LGBTQ rights due to the Republican platform's stance.
  • There is a pervasive fear that the Trump administration's actions, aided by the Electoral College and foreign interference, have emboldened hate-filled and racist segments of the population.
  • The author is critical of the Democrats' previous inaction in response to Trump administration officials ignoring subpoenas and the Republicans' silence on the sabotage of the US Postal Service.
  • The author is concerned about the suppression of minority votes and the undermining of democracy, particularly by Trump and the Republican party.
  • The author believes that Trump's potential defeat in the election might not be enough if it is not a decisive landslide, given the possibility of Trump facing prison time and his willingness to do anything to stay in power.
  • There is distrust towards white people who publicly support Black Lives Matter but privately resist relinquishing their white privilege.
  • The author anticipates a tense and possibly violent period leading up to and following the November election, with significant consequences for the nation's future.

I Have an Uneasy Feeling,

This could be the end.

Today is my husband and my anniversary, but I didn’t wake up with a feeling of joy and happiness and expectations for our anniversary dinner. No, I had this feeling that this might be our last celebration. Not because of ill health or unforeseen circumstances, but because of the upcoming election.

Even though throughout the morning we received well wishes from, family, friends, and neighbors, except for one Christian twat neighbor who even though she says likes us, doesn't recognize our marriage. I can not shake the feeling that Trump could get re-elected and our marriage would be in jeopardy.

Let’s face it, I don’t think any of us ever knew there were so many hate-filled racist, deplorable, and ignorant people living in our country. But sadly, perhaps 40 percent of our population falls into those categories. For most of our lives, they were living under a rock or in the hollers of our southern states. With the election, of Donald Trump by the outdated Electoral College and Vladimir Putin they slithered out into the daylight and have been given a voice, oftentimes incomprehensible, but none the less a voice.

I have seen Joe Biden leading in just about every political poll in the country, but I am still afraid. Why? I look back at how the Democrats simply accepted the fact that Trump administration officials boldly snubbed their noses at the numerous subpoenas issued to them to testify to Trump’s incompetence and corruption. They did nothing.

I saw where Trump and Kushner separated immigrant children from their families and held them in cages, where they remain today. I saw Betsy Devos arrange to have some of these children adopted by American families, using agencies she owned. I still see that these children are being physically, sexually, and emotionally abused by Trump’s Gestapo. The Republicans did and still do nothing.

Now I see the United States Postal Service being hobbled by Trump’s appointed lackey Louis DeJoy, solely to suppress voting by mail. The Republicans, for the most part, have remained silent, but thanks to the outpouring of support by a huge number of Americans Trump’s rush to destroy the Post Office has been temporarily halted. But DeJoy refuses to rectify the damage he has already done.

Today the House of Representatives, with bipartisan support, passed a bill to rescue the Post Office and protect mail-in voting. The bill now goes to the Senate, where I’m sure Mitch McConnel will kill it. Even if it survives the Senate, Trump is sure to veto it. The Trump theft of another election is becoming a strong possibility.

Growing up I learned, as every American citizen has learned that one of the key elements of living in our democracy is that we have the right to vote. We learn that that right is guaranteed by the US Constitution. But that’s not correct. That is only correct for a certain segment of our populace, whites. We all have the right to vote, but thanks to the efforts of Republicans, Blacks, and people of color are denied the right to exercise that vote. The closer we get to the election the more difficult Trump and the Republicans will make it for minorities and Democrats to vote.

In 2016 Hillary Clinton was elected by the majority of the American people, but because our president is elected by an antiquated system that was designed to protect the rights of slave-owning states to continue to own slaves, the Electoral College, American’s were denied a popularly elected president.

The polls look great for Biden, but they also looked good for Clinton in 2016. Unfortunately, people who respond to polls don’t always get off their fat asses to vote. Many asswipes complain about how bad Trump is but aren't going to vote because their man or woman wasn’t nominated by the Democrats. What kind of frigging morons are they? They have a chance to save the country, but because their feelings are hurt they’re going to stay home and pout?

In this next election, it’s not going to be enough for Trump to lose by a few million votes. He must be thoroughly defeated by the largest landslide in history. With the possibility of Trump spending years in prison after he leaves office looming in his future, Trump is going to do everything possible to remain in office. I believe that would include destroying the country and everything it stands for. His base of degenerates has come to enjoy their freedom to hate and destroy and will not easily slither back under their rocks.

So why does his re-election have anything to do with celebrating my anniversary? It’s because the 2020 RNC platform has adopted the same language as the 2016 RNC platform. That platform affirms the Republican stance against same-sex marriage, with a promise to repeal the Supreme court decisions making same-sex marriage legal. It also affirms the right to discriminate against the LGBTQ community, by those holding “Christian” values. The platform supports “gay conversion” therapy and is opposed to gender equality.

I also do not personally trust white people, who in public, support Black Lives Matter, and act upset by Trump's immoral and corrupt behavior, but in the comfort of their homes surrounded by their families, don’t want to give up their white privilege and the feeling of supremacy that comes with it.

The next few months are going to be very contentious, stressful, and maybe even violent. But no matter who wins in November, the time from the election to the inauguration could be the beginning of the end, either for Trump or our democracy.
