I Have a Question For My Readers
And would appreciate their feedback!
As most of you already know, I primarily write relationship-based stories. Somewhere along the line I also started dabbling into romance and sensual stuff with positive results.
Some of my readers started asking me when I would be writing a romance novel or something along those lines.
Have anyone among you read Mills & Boon books? They produce a wide range of romantic novels and hold a significant share in the romance fiction publishing industry.
While they may never breathe the rarefied air of the literary greats, one cannot deny the popularity of Mills & Boon romances, with one of their novels being sold every 10 seconds.
They held special significance for girls, such as myself, who spent most of their teenage years in the strict environment of a Catholic boarding school. The act of secretly bringing books into the dorms, thanks to girls with relatives overseas, was in high demand, often leading to a waitlist.
Their eager readers were the ones captivated by stories involving tall, brooding, heroes with impossibly robust physiques and spirited heroines. Where passion and desire sizzled before culminating in moments of mind-blowing sex and happily ever after's.
Suffice to say, real life turned out to be nothing like a Mills & Boon romance. True, it can follow some aspects — like a guy chases a girl who initially shows reluctance but then finally relents. But a nightmarish marriage and a painful divorce later, the once starlit eyes have lost their sparkle.
However, that is beside the point.
The point is that many women (and men) enjoy relationships and are passionate about discussing matters of the heart. I have never had any qualms about documenting my life and from my experience in writing here, I’ve observed that I have a modest but engaged audience when it comes to my relationship stories.
Almost all my viral stories as well as the majority of the boosted ones on this platform are about my love life.
Over the past year, I have had writers leave many positive comments about how romance writing appears to be my thing and asking when I am going to write a novel.
I would be lying if I said I hadn’t been giving the idea some thought.
However, I am a blogger and a hobbyist at that. I have no idea where to start or how to start writing a novel. Do I take some writing classes first before diving in or let it rip and then find an expert to edit? Do I self-publish as that seems to be the trend these days or is that not a good idea?
As you can see there are questions, questions, and even more questions!
I am sure some of you are in the process of writing a book or have written and published a book. How do you think I should approach this? Thanks in advance!
