Abstract

Interesting pieces, let’s see how useful they’ll be in the long run. The windscreen, as it usually is with Speed Champions sets, is completely unique to this car and does a good job imitating the original.

In terms of building experience, as usual, being a 9+ set, I will recommend this to anyone over the age of 7. While it does come with plenty of clever building techniques, none of them are too exotic. OK, maybe there is one, and it’s my favourite — the back uses four doors to create the unique rear of the Pagani Utopia. So, if you were looking for dark-grey car doors, now you get four! The minifig comes with the usual hair-piece and helmet, accompanied by the omnipresent wrench. At this point, I think this is the LEGO tool I own the most of. It used to be the walkie-talkie, but lately these screwdrivers are everywhere — in 319 sets, to be more exact.

While I am more than pleased with the model, the build experience, or the fact that it uses just a few stickers, and uses them well, many if not all reviewers seem to have an issue with the rear build of the car. Due to the angles that had to be accomplished, the rear end can move a bit up and down. I am not denying that being the case, there is a bit of a vertical wobble, but I, for one, don’t find that at all annoying. I think many LEGO reviewers have become perfectionists to the point that they simply cannot enjoy sets, unless they’re precisely the way they envisioned them, and it’s getting ridiculous.

The LEGO Pagani Utopia is a perfect little brother of the original car. I Have A New Favourite Supercar, The Pagani Utopia

Review of the LEGO Speed Champions, Pagani Utopia, set #76915.

And when I say favourite supercar, I obviously mean in brick form. We’ve established that I only care about cars when they’re made of LEGO bricks, the actual cars to me mean little to nothing. The Pagani is my latest favourite and that’s quite significant as I have a soft spot for Porsche, and I wrote about that too. The Pagani Utopia, however, is hard to say no to.

Pagani to me was a completely unknown name in the automotive industry. That’s perhaps thanks to the fact that it’s six years younger than me. It has some old ties with Lamborghini, as the company’s founder Horacio Pagani used to manage Lamborghini’s composite department before 1988. The company has a very interesting history overall, and the Pagani Utopia is their successor to the Pagani Huayra.

The actual Pagani Utopia was released on the 12th of September 2022, while the LEGO Speed Champions edition a few months later in March 2023. What struck me as the leaked images appeared online, was how noticeably different the car looked compared to many of the previous Speed Champions cars. Its general silhouette instantly grabs your attention, because while sleek and smooth, it also boasts a tough exterior both front and back, reminding me a bit of Bugattis, all the while seemingly ready for any racetrack, without it being an actual race-car. To me, it’s a bit of a mindfuck, but a good one at that.

Seeing the car in LEGO form gives me the same impression, that this car is different. Not radically, like the Aston Martin DB5, but enough to make you want it, and honestly, at 25 bucks, of course you do. While you only get 249 pieces for your hard-earned cash, somehow those seem to be used just as creatively as 300 of them. This set also uses the new chassis piece that allows for more brick-built details and more space in general for the interior. This also enables the cars to sit a little lower compared to previous models. Speaking of new pieces, you also get the 1×3 rounded plate. A very useful piece to be introduced. Additionally, this is the first-ever set to introduce the left and right roof 2×5 tiles.

An insanely good-looking brick-built replica at a far more approachable price-tag than its big brother. 😄
