I had 100 Followers, but was I Accepted?
Did follow for follow ruin my chance?
After getting my 100 followers, I applied for the Medium Partner Program. It was very simple to fill out everything that they asked. I am sure you all know the questions by now. Are you over 18? Are you sure you have the required followers? It took me less than 5 minutes to fill out the application. But then what happened?
I have seen, participated in, and made my own 100 followers post to gain traction and boost my numbers. This does work to quickly gain followers. I have been on this platform for almost a week now, and have almost 200 followers. However, I read one person’s story that made me very worried that I had doomed myself by doing this. I do apologize, I cannot remember who the author of the story was. They had done the same method many of us are using to get to our follower requirement. However, their application was denied. They must wait 30 days before reapplying. They said they met all the basic requirements and they believed it was because of how fast they gained followers. That the workers at Medium might have noticed the follow for follow trend going around and that they may be rejecting people who participate.
What I can tell you is this. That writer may be correct, Medium may be rejecting some applications that have done follow to follow. I do not know. There could have been another reason their application was rejected. I did follow for follow to reach the 100-follower mark, so I was very impatiently waiting to find out if my application would also be rejected. The first day passed without a word. I was getting even more nervous. I started trying to look up how long the process would take. I couldn’t find a clear answer. Some people said a few days, one person said it could take up to a month. Putting it out of my mind the best I could, I just kept on writing. This morning, a little under 48 hours after applying, I got my response. I was accepted.
So, I am here to tell you, that while there may be a chance that follow for follow can get your application denied, it does not seem to be an automatic disqualification. I wish you all the best of luck in reaching whatever goals you may have set for yourself. Write about what you are passionate about. One way or another, if you keep writing, you will see you are making progress.
