I Got the Job!!

New beginnings are on the mind tonight. Not only did today exceed expectations, but I exceeded the expectations of myself and smashed the day today! I was wide awake at 6 am which felt very odd as I usually sleep in on a Saturday morning. However, it was for good reason. I had a trial shift to get ready for at 11 am.

10.15 am rolled around and I decided to venture to my potential new job on the e- scooter and went through some nice woodlands and parks on my way. It was nice to take in nature and I hoped to be able to do this trip every day for work. For whatever reason, my nerves were surprisingly absent and I felt highly confident in myself. I’m getting this job.

Upon my arrival, I was greeted by a brilliant young man named Will, who was my nominated guide for my trial. Will is an incredibly knowledgeable and warm person to be around so I found myself absorbing knowledge like a sponge. The systems were almost identical to my old job so I felt like I fit in like a glove. I found myself being allowed to navigate the tills, book people in, prepare drinks and man the bar independently. This gave me a major sense of pride and confidence that by 2 pm I would be hired.

As the trial shift drew to a close, my potential manager, Amy gave me the news I have been waiting for. I’m hired! This Monday coming, I will be starting my first full shift and my first permanent job role since March 2020. I am incredibly proud of myself and my family and close friends have been so supportive.

As the night continues, I’ve decided I’m going to get myself into my comfiest clothes and drink until I’m dizzy! I extend so much gratitude to this community for being my anchor in my recovery so far. I am hoping that your Friday has shone and that your weekend shines brighter. Goodbye for now!
