How Do I Engage with My Potential Audience?

Here are quick ways to get immediate results and get 100 followers in less than 3 weeks:

Set a goal to read at least 10–20 articles per day that interest you.

It may sound like hard, tedious work, but the first steps to success usually are. If it involved ZERO effort, then everyone would be successful, right?

This will promote yourself and give attention to another writer at the same time.

Comments are visible to both the creator of the article and the public. If you appreciate someone’s work and have something interesting to share, it gives a signal to others that you may be worth checking out as well.

Your comment is a showcase of you and your work.

Always applaud the work of others.

Unless the article is utterly terrible or contrary to your core values, do not skip those who don’t have absolutely perfect grammar or proper English. Understand that not everyone was born as a native English speaker. It’s the idea and thought that counts.

Appreciate their efforts and give someone a chance to appreciate yours.

Take care of your followers and those who you follow!

Get engaged in their accounts, and get them to recognize you and your work. They may not make the number of your followers grow, but they are the fuel of your success. Treat them as gold. Everyone appreciates recognition.

I am not telling you to read the articles of every single follower because let’s face it.. there are only 24 hours in a day. But make it a habit and routine to see an article at least 1–2 of your followers daily.

Talk to people through your articles, reply to comments, and mention them in your work.

This is a social engineering hack (in the positive sense) that worked wonderfully for me on Instagram. The engagement per post on my account reaches nearly 50% — a combination of likes and comments. Comments themselves exceed 50 per post. The average Instagram account with any type of significant following only has 2% engagement!

When I joined Medium, I applied this practice exactly as that.

Write to people, mention them and their work directly in articles, and reply to comments underneath your articles. This interaction is important.

Engagement is the key to success across all online platforms — Medium, LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, and so forth.
