Initial consultation and confrontation
You know that thing where people suddenly start acting nice when you have knowledge or a skill to offer and they want to be friends?
That happened to me.
I assume it could be from the launching of websites and my time spent learning and reading and growing domain expertise in many areas. The issue is that sometimes while trying to sell such skill and knowledge, people do want to take advantage of it for cheap.
It makes sense. It will always be annoyingly torturous though.
That is why even with my growth progression on writing blogs online such as Medium, I tend to only reserve tips at a rate of once a day.
That way, the spread means that only my most loyal readers end up finding the most awesome tips and benefit from them.
The disrespectful $25
After weeks of chatting and wasting a lot of time on empty conversationalist space, they tried to claim they were an engineer themselves.
After that- they asked, would you design my business and website for $25?
The citation from them- they were just lazy.
I gave a simple counteroffer that made a lot of sense, I asked for $800 in labor costs and then they could determine what services they wanted as additional tools. That was on the cheaper end of my usual asks though I wanted to close a quicker deal if they were genuinely interested. Instead, they replied, “You’re a jerk!”
The world of getting free work, knowledge, or using name-calling had upset me. It makes me wonder why men are overworked and oftentimes just asked to do things completely helpful yet without real consideration of the effort, time, and other expense relation tasks typically needing to be done for compensation.
At this point, I realized that I had to stop entertaining it, or else I would simply not be looking after myself in the good way that I should be.
