I Go Out Into the Crowd
A poem

I go out into the crowd Not because I belong, but because the loneliness has become too much. I walk alongside others as if closeness would let me feel their company. Yet I am still here and everyone is so far away.
I go out into the crowd And I watch A child in a father's arms. A couple holding hands. A smile of comfort on a person's face greeting an old friend. Yet no eye flares with that light when they look upon me.
I go out into the crowd And I remember our crowds Trees around a lake Peach pie in a filled diner. Pebbles lightly raining down the cliff edge
I go out into the crowd and there I will be.
