I Gained 500 Followers in Little Over a Month

Never did I know that I could do very well writing on Medium. Today I hit 500 followers on medium, a figure I never dreamt I could achieve within this short period of time. I joined Medium a little over one year now and after publishing my first three articles I never got a single view for months. By then I thought you could just publish anything on medium and then start getting views. It’s not until June 2021 when I began to research how to get followers on medium. After my deep research and reading people’s experiences, I took my writing very seriously and I must say that my hard work really paid off. Here are some strategies I adopted to see my followers growing day by day:

Consistency

Right in mid-June 2021, I challenged myself to publish one article per day. My first article didn’t get any attention but I was never discouraged. Initially, it was really hard for me to come out with ideas but I realized that as I was continuing to publish every day, it helped me to regularly come out with new ideas, and my writing was also improving. In the month of June 2021, I realized my audience stats was little poor. I gained 44 followers with few views on articles but with zero reads and fans.

What did I do next? In the month of August, I challenged myself to publish at least one article per day. All my articles were self-published and never got curated for any of the articles. Still, I was not discouraged and stick to my plan. Then in mid-August, something strange happened. One of my articles went viral without even being curated. What might have caused this? Well, only the medium algorithm knows the secrete. That particular article gave me a massive number of followers with over 2.3k views little over 3 weeks as you can see from the screenshot below:

Engagement

When I began to research I read from people's experiences about the importance of engaging with other writers. Initially, I thought that was a joke. I started reading other writers' stories and leaving a comment, clapping, highlighting stories, and also I try to reply back to all my readers that leave a comment on my post. In fact, engaging with other writers is very crucial if you want to grow big followers. Not only did I gained followers but I also learned a lot from reading other people's comments. Oh! and not to mention I have made a few friends as well.

As you can see from the screenshot above just in the month of August 2021, I gained over 450+ new followers. I couldn’t believe my eyes but in the long run, the hard work has really paid off. For just one month that I put in the hard work and with the results so far, I think it’s a great achievement. As of the time writing this article my total earnings from the Medium Partner Program is hovering around $80 just for the month of August. Not too bad right?

Takeaway

From my own personal experience, I must say that Medium can really change your life if you take it seriously. To all my newbies medium writers, never give up. If I see great success just within a month then it means you can also do it. Be consistent and please, please engage with other writers which is the big secret.
