Supporting Local Women in Business

I was delighted to see a European grocery market popping up in my neighborhood. I met the wonderful owner Amanda Cordero a few weeks ago. We sat down and talked about her shop, her life, and her experiences.
Walking into the store Amanda was very welcoming and kind. She offered me tea, took me on a tour of her shop and we had a great conversation. Amanda opened her shop in April of 2023. She is coming up on her anniversary for the 1st year of being open. With COVID so many people closed stores it is wonderful to see new businesses opening in our local community.

I love to see local people opening shops and I believe it is important to support our local economy and shop at small stores when we can. I felt the magic as soon as I walked into this store. I felt that Amanda had put her love and heart into this place. Her store reminded me of growing up in Hungary and when my mom used to have her store. It was always welcoming and friendly, just like Amanda’s store.

Amanda also agreed to take in a few of the embroidery items I had left from my mom’s shop. She posted a beautiful picture of them on her Facebook page. Seeing the image brought me back to my childhood memories of my mom making embroidery at home. She also took one of the books I wrote Darkness of Light which has some Hungarian recipes in it. I was overwhelmed by her kindness.
It was lovely to see how much Amanda appreciated the handmade embroidery items. Not many people today care as much about beautiful handmade things it is easier to get the mass produced cheaper products. Amanda told me the colors would brighten up her shop. I was delighted to hear.

Amanda also offers delightful dishes in her store. The market is many places packaged into one. You can buy lovely European products or fresh/frozen fish items, have a nice lunch, and also get help with sending the fish you caught on the coast back home.
I was amazed by the experience Amanda has in the seafood business, running her business on her own, cooking, and also being a bookkeeper on the side. It is wonderful to see women succeed in business. I am very grateful to have met Amanda and she shared her story with me.
