Summary

The author discusses their experience of forgetting about a secret email list they started, its unexpected growth to nearly 1,200 subscribers, and the success they've had in engaging subscribers through email marketing.

Abstract

The author, who manages multiple projects and often struggles with organization, recounts the story of rediscovering an email list they had started and forgotten about twice. This list, initially created via a faceless TikTok account, grew to nearly 1,200 subscribers without significant effort or a lead magnet, using only a simple sign-up form from Beacons. Upon remembering the list, the author began emailing subscribers and was pleased to find high open and click-through rates, leading to increased traffic to their blog and potential revenue through product mentions and affiliate marketing. The author attributes the oversight to not regularly checking analytics for that particular TikTok account, which is monetized through brand deals. They plan to make email marketing a regular practice and aim to grow the list further, while also considering the possibility of selling the newsletter. The author reflects on the challenges of managing multiple social media accounts and invites readers to share similar experiences.

I Forgot About a Secret Email List I Started

When I began emailing subscribers, this happened….

Who forgets they started an email list? Me! I often have a lot of little projects happening all at once and it’s always been a struggle to stay organized.

As a result, I forgot about a little email list I launched with one of my faceless TikTok accounts a while back.

This is actually the second time I forgot about it, yikes.

The first time I checked it, I had hundreds of subscribers.

Today, I have nearly 1,200!

Here’s how I grew it, how I forgot about it and what happened when I started emailing subscribers….

How I started an email list

There are many ways you can start an email list. I won’t go too in-depth about all the possibilities.

I started this email list from social media.

I promised to send insightful, helpful info in exchange for their email address and got subscribers!

The growth was pretty insane for me to not have done anything special or put in any real work so far.

All I did was fill out a few fields in Beacons and publish the email subscribe form. That’s it!

I didn’t even have to create a lead magnet!

What happened when I started emailing my list?

Surprisingly, my email open rates are pretty good. So is my clickthrough rate!

I mention a product or plug in every email i send.

I get clicks and visits to my corresponding blog connected to the TikTok account that the list comes from.

I’m really excited to see how far this can take me. Email marketing can be incredibly well-performing.

It’s one of the ways how all the big marketers make the big bucks!

I don’t check my analytics on this one faceless TikTok account all that often. I just post to it and it’s monetized with brand deals.

I am emailing my list more regularly now and I find other ways to provide value like sharing a free list of updated resources linked on my profile and continuing to post helpful content 5X a week.

My goal is to make email marketing a regular thing and trying to grow the list as much as possible.

By the way, did you know you can sell email newsletters now?

If you want to learn more about how this works, comment below and I’ll write a Medium story explaining how you can get $0.50 to $3.20 per email subscriber on your list!

I feel like such a nut and embarrassed for even sharing this but, I want to be transparent and when you’re managing multiple social media accounts, it’s not uncommon for something to fall through the cracks.
