Summary

The poem "I Feel Nothing" by Vicky Jangra expresses emotional detachment and indifference in response to a partner's repeated acts of betrayal and mistreatment.

Abstract

The poem "I Feel Nothing" is a poignant expression of emotional numbness in the face of relational trauma. The speaker describes a series of hurtful events, including broken trust, lies, attempted breakups, emotional abuse, and infidelity, which have led to a loss of feeling. Despite these experiences, the speaker claims to have matured, suggesting that the pain has transformed them into a person who no longer reacts with emotion to such betrayals. The poem reflects on the paradoxical strength and emptiness that come from shutting down emotionally as a coping mechanism.

Opinions

  • The speaker feels a profound sense of emotional detachment as a defense mechanism against further pain.
  • There is an underlying tone of betrayal and hurt, as the speaker recounts various instances where trust was broken.
  • The repetition of "I feel nothing" emphasizes the speaker's consistent and unchanging state of emotional numbness.
  • The poem suggests that the speaker has reached a point of emotional maturity or resignation, where they no longer expect or need emotional reciprocity from their partner.
  • The final lines imply that the speaker's capacity for feeling has been irreversibly affected, possibly as a result of the cumulative impact of the relationship's toxic dynamics.

I Feel Nothing

A Poetry

I feel nothing

when you break my trust,

I feel nothing

when you lie to me and caught

I feel nothing

when you tried to break up with me,

I feel nothing

when you abuse my feelings

I feel nothing

when you start using a passcode on your phone,

I feel nothing

just after you walk away in the middle of my party.

I feel nothing

When I found you in the car with someone else,

I feel nothing

when you lied to me on that day,

I feel nothing now.

Feelings have already died,

I feel like I am mature man now.
