I Fail All the Time But I’m Not a Failure and Neither Are You!
The only way to fail is to not try!
I’ll tell you a not so secret kind of secret. I don’t hide this information but I also don’t throw it out there because part of me is embarrassed by it.
I’ve been publishing on Amazon (and other ebook retailers) for ten years now. TEN YEARS! And I still barely make more than a couple hundred dollars a month.
Some months have been more. I made as much as $800 in one month back in the good old days of KU1 (for those of you unfamiliar with the term, it was in the early days of Kindle Unlimited when writers made a flat fee every time someone downloaded their book and read at least a certain percent of the book; for short story writers, this was huge!).
And I have made more this year (almost…I’m about $100 away) than I have made in my highest earning year to date.
So, I’m not quite a success story.
But I’m definitely not a failure.
Hell, I think I should get some kind of award for still being here and still trying!
Failure is never a possibility as long as you keep showing up and trying.
Still making less than a $1 a month on Medium? No worries. Learn from it. Keep going. You’re not a failure!
Haven’t figured out what your best way to make money from writing is? That’s ok. You’ll get there. Or maybe you won’t. But you have a dream and goals and as long as you keep working towards them, you’ll never be a failure.
