I Earned $121.58 on Medium in January (KDP Blog: February 2, 2024)
Last month, I published 19 articles on Medium. I kicked off with enthusiasm, managing to publish 13 articles in the first 13 days. However, my motivation began to wane after that. Despite waking up to earnings exceeding $5–6 on several occasions, the financial rewards were not sufficiently motivating.

I’ve mentioned before, and I’ll reiterate: Starting a new venture, be it KDP, Medium, or anything else, initially feels playful and enjoyable. Similar to how one can spend countless hours playing video games without getting bored, it’s possible to dedicate numerous hours to a side hustle. Yet, motivation is fleeting and eventually fades, which is when one must rely on discipline, positive habits, or a mix of both to persist. James Clear, in his book “Atomic Habits,” states that success comes to those who tolerate boredom and continue working regardless.
In the latter half of January, I maintained discipline, managing to write an article approximately every three days. I believe this pace is sustainable for me in the long run. Attempting to force myself to write daily would likely lead to burnout and cessation of writing altogether.
It’s not that I lack the ability to write or create a YouTube video every day. It’s possible, but doing so would detract from the time dedicated to my primary business: Amazon KDP. KDP is my main focus, and I aim to devote as much attention as possible to its growth, even if it means spending less time on other projects.
Publishing fewer articles might result in earning less than $121 in future months. However, I’m committed to the long-term journey, with my KDP business being the priority.
What did I get up to with KDP the last few days?
I’ve been working with my VA to start on a second activity book, similar to the one I published a few days ago. I’m thinking of turning these books into a brand and building on them, something I’ve never tried before. Additionally, I’ve assigned a few research-based projects to my VA to work on. I pay $15–20 for these research tasks. While I don’t plan to pursue all of them, I greatly value the insight and ideas they bring. I subscribe to the belief that generating ideas is a numbers game; the more you come up with, the greater the likelihood of discovering and pursuing successful ones.
