How I Dealt With Racing Thoughts When Nothing Seemed to Work

This Feeling Got Under My Skin But I Was Stronger

I’m a huge fan of Michael Jackson. And two days ago, I was watching a snippet of This Is It — his documentary.

Last night, I went to sleep, and to my surprise, Michael was in my dream — definitely, a non-ordinary dream.

Managing the Escape

In this dream, I was his manager and friend, and he trusted me to share his secrets and thoughts.

We talked a lot about his career, his care for his fans, and his plans to have a normal life without being recognized (with many masks and outfits), but suddenly we were being chased through the streets of Rio de Janeiro by some bad people.

I helped him escape some places and guided him toward some inclined streets and stairs, then to some more narrow inclined streets until we finally got to a nice house with a beautiful living room. It was safe there.

Getting there, Michael was exhausted, so he threw himself on a huge couch that was in that room, and I went to the kitchen to try to find some water.

And that was the dream. It was short and nonsense. What does it even mean? I have no idea! Hahaha

The point is that it was an agitated dream, and the chasing part seemed like forever.

That agitation came with me when I woke up. I had just woken up but my mind was already racing with millions of thoughts.

Getting Rid Of Racing Thoughts

I tried meditating, but it was hard to focus on the now.

I tried drinking water while mentalizing positive affirmations.

I tried playing with my pets.

Until I finally got into the shower, washed my hair, and imagined the intrusive thoughts leaving as the water passed through my head and shoulders.

Only after I did that, I finally got back to my center and could feel my mind empty, totally focused on the present moment, without any thought passing by anymore.

After I left the shower, I was calmer, my mind was sharper, and I immediately got three ideas for articles and started writing in an amazing state of flow.

Magically, after that, everything I had tried before but couldn't do suddenly seemed easy.

The lesson of this story? Find your trick to calm down an agitated mind.

It may be one of the things I tried, or maybe you get back to your center while you take a shower, wash the dishes, or cook, or maybe while driving, who knows?
