I Don’t Want to Scaremonger, But—

This is what they are doing with the world’s most dangerous concoction

— It rots metal.

— Yet, farmers are spraying it on their fields.

— It isn’t safe to breathe, but they tell us it is safe to drink!

— It’s nonbiodegradable, but companies are pumping it into our rivers.

— Big companies are making a fortune selling it to you.

— It doesn’t wash off if it comes into contact with your skin.

It’s Dihydrogen monoxide.

If you think that’s bad

Wait until you hear about hydrogen hydroxide!

— It’s been detected in over 25% of American municipal water systems.

— Every year, it kills 3500 to 4000 people a year in the US and nearly a quarter million worldwide.

— It has a pH of 7, which is higher than any acid.

— Overexposure can be deadly in seconds, not minutes.

— Despite this, it remains legal.

Hydrogen hydroxide and Dihydrogen monoxide cause similar symptoms if ingested.

  • It’s tasteless, but your body sends a message to the brain within 5 minutes of consumption.
  • Within 30 minutes, it affects your brain in the same way as cocaine. It goes on alert.
  • Within an hour, your bladder is stretched, and it can cause micturition.

What can you do about it?

Nothing.

Most of you will have got it.

But there will still be a small minority of people who have got this far and are angry or upset or worried — chill, I was describing H2O. Plain water.

The world’s most dangerous concoction isn’t water — it’s words.

Falsehood, fraud, and wilful imposition are the tools of tyrants.

We live in a world where misinformation and manipulation are rampant. It’s not limited to political arguments, it’s spread all over social media, from news stories to memes to comment sections on blogs.

It’s easy to get sucked into the vortex.

— How do you know if what you’re reading is true?

— How do you know that someone isn’t trying to fool you?

The answer is simple: You don’t! You can’t! That’s why it’s so important to seek sources that you trust and can verify their claims with facts.

There are perils in believing everything you are told. Inflammatory content, fake news, and statistics presented with an ulterior motive are fuelling the confusion.

It’s why minorities are vilified. It’s how the rich get richer. It’s how evil spreads.

If you want to know what’s true, start by asking yourself these questions:

  • Who is writing this article/post?
  • What do they want people to think about in this article/post?
  • Are they being honest about where they got their information from? And does that information line up with what I know myself?

We are bombarded with information — and it’s not always easy to determine what’s fact and what isn’t. This can lead us down some dangerous paths, especially with our health.

Just because something sounds authoritative or looks authoritative doesn’t mean it actually is.

In the meantime, go have a nice long cool glass of Dihydrogen monoxide and rehydrate. You deserve it.
