I Don’t Care If You Are 90 Years Old! Get Up And Ride That Rollercoaster!
Why Age Should Never Stop You From Doing The Things You Love

There I was on a warm summer morning at Cedar Point, waiting in line to go on Millennium Force, the 310-foot Giga Coaster.
I looked upward at this massive coaster as we moved closer to the arrival/departure station. I took a closer look at the people ahead of me, and I saw an older man. He was walking a bit slower than the rest of us and was looking to get on the Millennium Force.
It wasn’t like he was waiting in line with his grandson or anything like that. He was going to ride this beast of a rollercoaster.
This guy looked around 90 years old! I couldn’t believe what my eyes were witnessing. I was concerned about his well-being due to his advanced age.
We were all seated and ready to go up to this mammoth coaster that overlooked Lake Erie.
The coaster started as pounding sounds of machinery filled the air. We were all a bit nervous as we ascended to the top of the coaster that surpassed 300 feet. I thought I hope nothing serious happens to this older man on the rollercoaster.
Then the time arrived.
We descended from 310 feet at an 80-degree drop, going close to 93MPH. The adrenaline from the fall and the speed were breathtaking.
Then came another hill as the coaster rapidly moved along the track, as we proceeded through the sharp turns and the tunnels and more hills and turns, and then the ride was over.
We disembarked from the station. The elderly man was okay. He was ecstatic, full of smiles and cheer, as if he had the time of his life.
He enthusiastically said, “I am going on Top Thrill Dragster next!”
I thought, how can someone his age ride such high-intensity roller coasters? I ponder this for a few moments.
The man had to have kept himself in good health for most of his life, and also, it was his attitude. He taught me something that day: that you are never too old to do the things that you enjoy.
As I am now at the start of my late 40s, I wonder how I want to be when I get older. I certainly do not want to be the crabby old man at home sitting in front of the television all day long. If I live to be 90 years old, I want to be still able to ride the high-intensity rollercoasters and live life. This is my aging goal.
