I Do

Skies clear as if upon request families waiting in bated breath together, on this day, they join — on the beach with sand, warm as the Florida heat
I wait anxiously I wait nervously
From afar I notice not the sun in my eyes but the true beauty whose kindness and warmth is genuinely better than any blanket on a cold day
My finance as gorgeous as the day we met
She too is nervous She too is anxious
We stand side by side
Behind us, waves break as we share our vows — the ocean was loud that day
I always assumed it too wanted to celebrate
We exchange vows in front of a crowd of familiar faces, our friends and family
Happy is more than just a catchy song
It is a genuine emotion felt by two souls becoming one
When asked if we vow to protect, love, and cherish through thick and thin
our eyes began to sing before our words vocalized
I do.
I do.
How I got so lucky is a question often renewed.
Where I write, in front of me, is a photo collage from our wedding day. Looking at it while drinking my morning cup of coffee inspired this poem. She inspires me every day to write, good or bad. This poem is for her.
