CHANGE MANAGEMENT | PEOPLE MAKING CHANGE

I Didn’t Want the Stupid Change, Then This Happened

My co-worker told me about the change and showed me how this solution was worth getting out of bed for.

In a recent article by Antoinette Bonita Kamau, she states, “Giving your workers the freedom to promote events and programmes gives their job another satisfying dimension.”

In one of my recent projects, we implemented an approach to this by creating a secondment program in which team members from our business took on the role of ‘Change Leads’ for a specified period.

This empowered them to be actively involved in the change process, making it a transformation not just for themselves and their peers but, in truth, it became change by them. Their insights and experiences were invaluable in shaping the direction of the change initiative.

Another effective strategy we employed was investing in early learning opportunities for super users. These individuals became the beacons for the new way of working within their teams.

By equipping the humans who have to make the change with the necessary knowledge and tools, we enable them to guide their peers through the transition. In these circumstances, there is the opportunity for a smoother and more organic adaptation to the changes introduced.

One key lesson we’ve learned is that managing the people side of change is not about imposing changes onto individuals but working collaboratively with them — engaging them in the end-to-end process.

It’s about ensuring that the change is not done to but with the people who must make it. This collaborative approach fosters a sense of ownership and commitment and enhances the overall success of the change management process.

A people-centric approach can be transformative for any organization.
