I Didn’t Get The Medium $500 Bonus; Here’s What I Have To Do

In case you didn’t know, Medium announced last month that they would be giving out monthly bonuses to the top 1500 writers on the platform for June and July. I thought of this as an amazing opportunity and started writing as much as I could. Medium loves it when their creators are constantly posting. The more stories you create, the better the algorithm will treat you.

After all my hard work in June, I did not get the Medium writer bonus for this month and now only have this month left to prove that I’m a top writer who deserves a bonus. I love creating content and helping random people out, whenever I get a response from someone it gives me a good feeling and makes me feel accomplished.

I unfortunately didn’t get any bonus from Medium this month but I’m not mad, I’m motivated.

I’m blessed that I discovered Medium in March of 2021, it’s a great way to make extra money for writing online. The minimum bonus Medium gives the top writers is a bonus of $50 and my goal is to receive one at the end of this month. I have my eyes on the prize.

Why No Bonus?

I honestly wasn’t surprised knowing I didn’t get a bonus this month. For the people who received one, you inspire me. There’s a lot of reasons why I received no bonus for June. For starters, I should’ve started making content at the beginning of the month when I first started Medium but I ended up procrastinating for the first month and a half until I finally decided to take this seriously and post my first article on June 16th.

I’ve never been a top writer in a specific niche yet. This is a big goal of mine. I’ve been reading many stories about the Medium bonus for inspiration and advice.

How?

One day you’re going to have an article that goes viral and there’s an enormous chance that article will be the reason you get a monthly bonus. The amount of reading time is the most important part to think about when writing your stories. You want to engage with them because engagement will boost the algorithm, similar to how Youtube works.

How To Increase Your Chances Of Getting A Bonus

Try posting every day. I’m doing a challenge of making 40 posts for the month of July. Not only am I pushing myself to post consistently, but I’m even more focused on getting a bonus this month and this challenge will certainly help.

Submit your stories to publications. Publications are key if you want to get recognized. I highly recommend writing for publications like ILLUMINATION by Dr Mehmet Yildiz. Your article will likely be seen by more than 30,000 people which gives you a great chance to go viral

Use tags- Medium gives you the option to come up with 5 tags on your article before posting it so that other creators who are reading in that niche, will most likely see your stories. You have to be smart with tags, make sure you put all 5 tags on your article so it increases the chances of more people in different unique niches noticing your stories and if they actually like your content, they may just follow you.

Engage with other writers- You can’t be expecting people to notice your content if you don’t notice theirs first. It’s best to read and engage with 10–15 articles a day on Medium. By clapping and commenting on other creator’s work, not only will you brighten up their day but they’ll most likely end up doing the same thing back as a way of showing appreciation

Marketize your blogs- Good luck getting views on your blogs if you don’t share them online. I have a folder on my phone for marketing and every day I promote my work on platforms like Reddit and answer questions on Quora and link to my article in the end.

Takeaway

If you’re not confident that you’re going to be receiving a bonus for the month of July, then you most likely won’t get one. I’ve been manifesting getting my first bonus on Medium and I’m confident it will happen I just have to keep pushing myself to post. (easier said than done)

I love what Medium is doing with its creators. Although the last bonus promotion ends by the start of August, it’s obvious they will keep finding ways of motivating their writers with ways of money and I’m here for the long run.
