I Demystified High Income Online Writing. Here’s What I Wished I Knew 3 Years Ago.

How Big-Gun-Fountain-Pens earn big(ger) bucks

Whoo hoo, DYMYSTIFIED! Photo by Dmitry Vechorko on Unsplash

I know you have doubts about this online writing thing.

Let me guess.

You could be writing for 2, 3, or 4 years. You enjoy sharing your ideas, getting better at scratching the readers’ itch and have experienced phenomenal writing income months.

The problem?

Your online writing income looks like a roller coaster.

The real problem?

You just cannot understand how these Big-Gun-Fountain-Pens are killing it…

… and you are not.

And I’m here to tell ya’ll. Heh heh.

Skillset, Captive Network, Top Writer, Growing Online Writing Business.

I have been confused for years.

As confused as a donkey.

I confess. My IQ is low.

I thought that the game of online writing was about writing. I don’t fault myself.

When I was younger, I thought the plumbing service business was all about hammering and twisting the right spots. Whoopsie!

I was right.

And I am wrong.

It applies to you.

You were right.

Now… you might be wrong.

And acknowledging that we are wrong is a bitter pill to swallow. Mine was. Here’s why.

I am guessing that you probably,

  • Spent a bomb on copywriting online courses,
  • Bought ‘Secrets of Headlines Writing’ from renowned Big-Gun-Fountain-Pens,
  • Attended webinars and subscribed to free email classes to learn… what you already know.

Is that you?

Hey, hey. Listen, Listen. It is okay. There is no shame.

That. Was. Me.

As I confessed above, I focused way-way-way, way~ way~ way~, and way-way-way too much time, effort, and energy in brushing up my writing.

Of course. Getting better at sharing our stories is built into the fundamental tenet of online writing.

I don’t regret learning to write better. Or, for that matter, paying tuition fees in the form of books and online courses.

These investments brought me from nothing to a 24x Top Writer on this platform. Please, I am not writing to brag.

I am proud. It was a journey from 0 to 1.

But.

That is a far cry from 0 to 100.

And that is where we want to be.

The question, as always, is how. How do these Big-Gun-Fountain-Pens cross this seemingly insurmountable gap from 1 to 100? What did they do? What did we not do?

I have burning questions. And they demand acute answers.

In Finance, Professionals Say ‘Follow the Money’.

This saying is my North Star in investing and market trading.

I think it is the right approach.

Follow the tide, and we catch a wave to ride.

So, what is the equivalent in the world of online writing? What are the blueprints, footprints, and trails we can follow?

To answer this question — I default to business thinking.

I look around me and study all Big-Gun-Fountain-Pens. I read their work, the ideas they propagate, and the things they do.

Especially the things they do.

And you may ask. What are those? Well.

The commonalities are,

  • Call-to-Actions,
  • Digital products,
  • A huge following,
  • A website domain,
  • A newsletter engine,
  • An audience conversion toolkit,
  • An online business behind their articles,
  • Managing a writer’s network behind paid walls,
  • Multiple articles with 90% similarity and 10% ingenuity.

These are the superficial commonalities. I repeat.

These are the superficial commonalities.

Take time to think it through. Why do I say it is superficial?

It took me years to crack the code.

Let me explain why so.

Chances are, you will, like me, focus on…

  • The CTAs,
  • The emailers,
  • The monetizable website,
  • The various courses, free or paid, they offer.

And then, you will start thinking oh man, I need all these things to work for me!

If so, this is what you must hear.

You are dead wrong.

As I was.

The unseen matters.

I am referring to the people.

Strictly speaking, the people in their community.

In business, this is known as a monetizable audience. These are folks who will buy from you.

Without them, you are like searching for fish in the vast ocean. No kidding. You find no fish despite the vastness.

The Alaskan pollack is always elsewhere.

I digress. Let me get back to the concept of a monetizable audience.

I used to think anyone who believed in my work would buy stuff from me.

No, no, No, nO, NO.

They must be in your in-group.

Then, your conversion rate for all things paid will skyrocket.

Now, how do we create and breed that pond of monetizable audience?

  • Use articles to generate interest and create readers/followers.
  • Have CTAs to funnel them to your working website.
  • Dazzle them with your proven online success.
  • Get them to join the paid online community.
  • Get them to actively learn from one another.
  • Help improve their work, piece by piece.
  • Read articles published by the paid community.
  • And then, leave comments to engage, clap, and comment.
  • Encourage the other members of the paid community to do the same.
  • Sell digital products the paid community will buy because their earnings went up after joining.

Just to be clear, I have nothing against the mechanics I observed. Business is business.

The game of business is about leverage. Leverage gives strength to a group of people over highly skilled individuals.

I love to believe that Bruce Lee is invincible.

And he has proven to be so, 1-on-1.

But can he take on an army and win?

I have my doubts.

But, yes. I acknowledge exceptions. Some highly skilled writers can achieve stratospheric results that members of a paid community will never be able to.

There are. But these are the minorities. The few.

For the rest of us mere mortals…

… I guess having a paid community group to fall back on for dependable, above-average online writing income is a good bet.

In fact, it is a proven good bet.

Because no matter what we do, audiences and customers drive our income.

So do our peers… especially when it comes to online writing.

The Close

If you are a solo top writer, chances are… You are missing out on all the good stuff online.

Others are eating meat. You get breadcrumbs.

It is baffling, perplexing, and frustrating.

And it nurtures self-doubt.

Let me tell you this.

No. You are as good as your random comments say about you. The only problem? These comments you receive are random.

To avoid becoming a perpetual pansy on the table, you must study the hidden mechanics of success.

Throw a dart. Pick a Top-Gun-Fountain-Pen. Scrutinize every piece of their work. Get down to the details. Extract commonalities. Toss into the superficial and business buckets.

And then, you will realize one thing.

As skilled as you are… You may be outnumbered now. Today.

But the good news is…

… you finally caught a glimpse of that invisible connector between 1 to 100.

The fork road is right in front of you.

Do you level up? Or stay at level?

That choice… is yours.

And oh, oh.

What is the knock-out platform we should focus our time on?

Is it the Big M or the Supplemental Stack?

Look. Do you think that is the right question to begin with… if you have read until this point? :)
