I Choose
Poetry prompt response
I choose, To take the time To remember the people Who remember me And even those That do not persist But have lingered on To slipping grasps.
I choose, To signify this day Not as change From who I am But as a recollection Of why I am at the place I’m at And I thank all the people That helped me get here.
I choose, On this glorious day To celebrate the woman that gave me life And even though it was not destined that I would be raised in her loving arms I was still lucky enough To be surrounded with Loads of love From a different person I also call mother.
I choose, To embrace my being To love myself And not to hide, who I am Or why I am No matter how It makes me uncomfortable or insecure It is all I know And therefore I shall Learn to love.
I choose, To conduct myself In a mannered way And respect the beliefs Of all I come across Even if I do not, agree with them.
I hope my actions Will lead to reciprocity To be treated with dignity Is all I ask.
The ink has run dry The page has found its attend I thank all who have read I hope my words will serve as treasured gems.
I wrote this in response to Melanie J. and Alice Floris, the prompt is “I choose”.
