Abstract

Stephenie Magister reflects on her time writing for ScreenRant, particularly during the early days of the pandemic, where she was given the creative freedom to explore queer themes in her articles. She thanks the platform for permitting her to use provocative cover images, such as one suggesting the Terminator might have been gay, and for allowing her to speculate on alternative romantic pairings for characters like Stan from Mad Men. Her work also includes critiquing Batman's recurring narratives about his parents' death and highlighting the platonic relationship between JD and Turk in Scrubs as one of JD's best "dates." Magister's articles delve into the intricacies of Xander's apartments in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and question the depth of friendship between Cisco and Caitlin in the Arrowverse. I can’t believe ScreenRant let me publish these…

Alas, poor Terminator, I knew ye well

I’ll forever be grateful to ScreenRant for letting me get away with writing exceptionally queer content during the early days of the pandemic.

Thank you, ScreenRant, for:

Letting me use a cover image for a Terminator article that’s essentially: “Wait…the Terminator was gay?”

Empowering me to speculate on who else Stan should have been with (other than Peggy), and letting my #1 pick be Don Draper.

Allowing me to raz Batman HARD. Or at least everyone who’s told a story about him getting over the death of his parents…only for Bruce Wayne to keep being Batman anyway. Obviously Val Kilmer was the best.

Funding my obsessive rewatch of Scrubs to tell you why JD’s best date was a platonic man-date with his best friend Turk.

Pushing me to scrutinize every iteration of Xander’s apartments throughout the Buffy the Vampire Slayer TV shows and comic books…and understanding that the #1 favorite part of his apartment was always going to be the cats.

And boy, I know we all miss Cisco on the Flash (CW), but did you know he and Caitlin were never really friends in the first place?!
