I Believe in the Power of Pink

And a whole mess of other things as well.

Artwork by Author

Beyond the place where mountains and springs link and the line between heaven and earth feels unreachable, what remains within are those beliefs we know as true. They hold the center. They shift and shape the framework of us as we glide through this life. This one beautiful life we’re given.

A life that’s a gift. A painful, complex, messy gift that at times is so unbearably cruel, so unjust, and so damn short. But it’s also radiant, magical, exhilarating, ironic, hilarious, and filled with such joy that doesn’t always come to us in those big and bold ways. Rather it comes to us in the small, simple, and quiet of each passing day.

For me, I continue to challenge some of those beliefs — as I should — because what once felt ground in righteousness no longer fits me like a glove. But then there are those other beliefs, the ones that are pure and constant revelations that will always remain rooted to the core.

Of which I share with you now.

I believe in the power of pink.

I believe all girls are beautiful. And I believe they’re the most beautiful when they feel strong.

I believe in forgiveness.

I believe we must be kind, be respectful, being generous with our time. Life is a mirror.

I believe every single thing that has ever happened in our lives is preparing us for a moment that is yet to come.

I believe 67 is the new 50. Even though that number sometimes feels awfully heavy, life is limitless and so am I.

I believe it takes courage to walk away.

I believe in committing to the moment because it’s gone in a blink.

I believe we have to be bold. We have to dare ourselves by taking risks, getting uncomfortable in those uncomfortable spaces, because it’s right, it’s inclusive.

I believe in lots of kissing.

I believe in never questioning my worth. That’s like asking if I deserve to breathe or the sun to shine.

I believe nothing heals the heart faster than laughter.

I believe it’s important to realize being alone and lonely are two different things.

I believe the brokenness of the world will heal with time. All things break and all things somehow piece back together. It’s just waiting for the light.

I believe only I define the boundaries of what is possible.

I believe as humans we’re an ongoing project. An endless panoply of hurts, mistakes, picking up those pieces, discovering what works, what sparks us back on track where we reconnect to our inherent good, where we remember the things that we once liked about ourselves still resides within, and this is all just part of the process.

That and New York City wasn’t built in a day.
