“I became the doctor my parents wanted me to marry”. I came across this caption online and it struck me as ironic that female success is still perceived as the exception rather than the norm. Many young girls are still married off at puberty to become homemakers and raise children. This stifles the growth of the girl child robbing her of the opportunities afforded by education, learning, growth, and experience. Unfortunately, these girls know no better as her entire worth is wrapped up in her ‘marriageability and ability to bear children’. Every young girl should live up to her full potential. She can and should pursue an education, work, own a business, or pursue any course in life. She should grow, develop, thrive, and pursue academic and/or professional excellence so that when marriage does come, it will be a partnership of 2 people growing and excelling together.
