I was shocked when I woke up early morning on December 18, 2021, only to read an exciting email from Medium that I am a top writer in Finance on Medium.

The hard work has indeed paid off. I never thought I could reach such a milestone when I started writing on Medium. It only took me five months to achieve this opportunity. Believe me, I’m not a professional writer but with determination and the right mindset, I was able to breakthrough.

You might wonder what my plan was for becoming a top Medium writer.

CONSISTENCY

You may have heard this from a number of readers, and I must admit that the Medium algorithm rewards people that are active on the platform.

Set a goal of writing one article each day or three to five articles per week.

PICK A NICHE

It’s best to stick to a specific niche if you want to become a top Medium writer. Choose 3–5 tags on Medium and write about them on a regular basis. Money, Finance, Business, Make Money Online, and Side Hustle are some of the most common tags I use on Medium.

Granted, getting accepted into most publications is difficult, but don’t be afraid to attempt new publications in the hopes of being accepted.

PRIORITIZE QUALITY OVER QUANTITY

I select topics with care, go over them multiple times, and write the ones that deserve to be written. Many writers I know strive for quantity, attempting to post many articles every day.

You can publish tales on a daily basis if you work as a full-time writer. If you have a full-time job and Medium is your side hustle, however, every minute you spend writing is priceless.

Prioritize quality over quantity. Impress readers with your writing, keep them waiting for the next content, and never disappoint them by providing unfinished pieces. This isn’t going to be you anymore. It takes time to earn the reader’s trust, so don’t let it slip away.
