Are any editors reading this?

Some of you know I’m an editor for the New Writers Welcome publication. I rejected an article this Tuesday. The author wrote how easy it was to lose weight. He was honest enough to say he never had to lose weight himself. He was not a weight loss-related professional such as a trainer, dietician, or doctor. All he did was google the topic, read a few articles and watch a few YouTube videos. The result was some ‘Eat less and move more’ advice using the ‘Why does it have to be difficult?’ tone.

My own weight loss of 41kg or 90 pounds wasn’t fast or easy. Every one of my clients who managed to lose weight was different. The answer to a person’s weight loss issue is far from being simple. There is no 100% success rate either. Different methods work for different people. I work in the fitness industry for 11 years so I’m talking about hundreds of people.

Have you lost weight before? Was it easy for you?

I was honest with the author as well. I asked him to look at it from a reader’s perspective. What is the value of the advice you can google? Value comes from a personal, professional experience, or a combination of both. To my surprise, he agreed with me.

It can sound easy to write about a personal experience. Yet it could be hard if you recall your past events and feelings and become emotional. The ‘About Me’ story has been the hardest challenge for me so far.
