I Beat My December Stats With Half Of January Remaining
My Medium journey has been one of an increasingly positive upward trend. It’s like being on a rollercoaster going up and up, not being able to see the plummet yet, and not feeling that fear. Doubt and imposter syndrome could easily creep in, but for now, I’m keeping them at bay.
How? I know I have worked for this. I haven’t done it through luck, or with one article, or two, or even three great articles. I’ve written over 100 blog posts. I will say though I am genuinely surprised at how much I’ve seemingly impacted people. I know you might see people say this all the time but it’s super humbling.
Last year I never left the house and would wake up in the afternoon. Now I am apparently inspiring people to write. It’s almost unbelievable, I know I’m working hard but am I truly helping people that much? The stats say yes, all of you say yes, but my brain is like nah surely not.
For those who don’t know I currently work part-time in retail. It’s one of the worst places to work in retail and while it’s only part-time it feels like full-time. Well, guess what? In December I made $600 on Medium. I’ve just hit that now for January. (Also surpassing views + reads).

So logically I should tilt over the 4-digit mark, and even with the crap heap that is the ‘Great’ British Pound, the conversion will still leave me above what I earn in my job.
So what does that mean? It means exactly what you think. If I can replicate this for just a few more months, I can quit. Obviously, no rash decisions will be made, of course not.
But it can’t be denied that the possibility is starting to present itself for me to quit, and try and truly scale my brand. Maybe, just maybe, I won’t have to get a ‘job’ again. There is a timer though. I can’t just live off 800 (currently from my job) forever. I will have to save up for a place to live, transport (got my eyes on a merc), and other boring grown up things.
It’s time to go all in. Or don’t. I know which I’m choosing, wish me luck.
