I Ate Berries Every Single Day For A Year — And Immunity Boost!
Say goodbye to UTI! An absolute game-changer!

At least a few times since college, I had been sick with urinary tract infections. A few bad habits of not drinking enough water, unhealthy eating habits, and an unhealthy lifestyle led me to it. Besides women can get it more easily due to anatomical reasons.
I have moved to Finland, the country tops the ranking when it comes to wild berries. In this nordic country, growing conditions are harsh yet productive.
Abundant Finnish forest
Over 80% of Finland is covered with forests, almost entirely covered by a large area of coniferous forest. These forests are pristine, with access to clean water, and fertile soil.
Finnish forests and bogs supply an abundant natural crop of berries. The forest holds an abundant source of wild berries. The first time I visited a forest during berry season, I got surprised by the abundance of these natural resources a gourmet chef would covet for.
Approximately 50 varieties of wild berries grow in Finland, of which 37 are edible. The best-known and commercially valuable berries are lingonberries, crowberries, bilberries, cloudberries, raspberries, cranberries, and sea buckthorn.
Healthy and yummy food
Berries from this forest are a big part of the Finnish diet and traditions. A typical Finnish breakfast and desserts incorporate wild berries. A typical breakfast consists of oatmeal topped with berries. Desserts and drinks always feature the Finnish pride from these forest wonders.

Berry season and “every man’s right”
Finland practices “every man’s right”, the right of everyone in Finland to enjoy outdoor pursuits regardless of who owns or occupies an area.
This allows you to pick mushrooms and berries all over the country without being afraid of trespassing. Just be mindful though as it also comes with responsibility.
The month of July and August are the berry picking months. We collected three large buckets mostly lingonberry and blueberries, which was enough to supply us for a year.
I made them into jams, pies, and desserts, and some were eaten with oatmeal during breakfast. I always enjoy eating a yummy breakfast with blueberries and lingonberries, cloudberries whenever I get my hands on them, and local strawberries.
I am so excited for the next berry season to come again, and I can't wait to fill my bucket with blueberries, lingonberries, and also cranberries. In addition to the fun of collecting berries, Finland’s forests are also abundant with mushrooms.
Since then, I noticed that I haven't been sick in a year with flu or UTI. My immune system seems to have been a lot better. Visiting forests has also reduced my anxiety and gives me good walking exercise.
I went online to do some research about berries, and this is what I found:
Protection Against Infection
Cranberries, blueberries, raspberries, oh my! Berries promote urinary tract health and provide protection against infection with an important compound that helps fight bacteria and keeps them from sticking to the lining of the urinary tract.

Boost Immunity
Berries appear to have immune-boosting benefits due to their polyphenol content, a type of plant antioxidant that gives blueberries and other berries like blackberries, strawberries, and cranberries their vibrant color. Polyphenols are linked to countering cell damage and interacting with our gut bacteria to reduce inflammation and enhance immune response, which can play a role in the prevention and therapy of diseases with underlining inflammatory conditions, including cancer, according to a review in the November 2018 issue of Nutrients.

Final thoughts
It's a privilege to have access to free wild berries, I would definitely never eat breakfast without berries again. I feel more energetic and feeling as healthy as ever. Aside from the yummy meals berries provide, the Finnish forests provide me with safe spaces to enjoy a quiet walk, and just to get lost in nature.
