“I Am So Good!”

Wednesday Prompt: What illusions must I dispel?

What is an illusion? According to Merriam Webster Dictionary, an illusion is a misleading image presented to the vision. Illusion is a false image or a sense that we project in our minds. Illusion is when you think of something unrealistic or misinterpreted vision.

For example, when you see and feel something but it is not realistic, that is an illusion, just like a magician’s trick. I cannot tell whether an illusion is bad or good because it depends on an illusion's nature. Illusions can be a bad thing, and they could be a good thing.

So, what illusion must I dispel?

The illusions that I am so good! I am so good at work, in school, and writing, to the point that there’s no room for me to grow. My mindset was like: I am so good at something, and I don’t need to learn anymore. I am so good at work, and I don’t need to improve myself in customer service. I am so good at school that I don’t need to study anymore. I am so good at writing that I don’t need to learn more about the writing techniques and grammar structures.

For example, When you think that you are so good and confident about ideas or whatever you might think of, you would feel like you don’t need to acquire skills anymore. You are stuck with all the knowledge you have. There is no room to widen your horizon.

Now, I am not saying that illusions are only bad things. It could be a good thing. Illusions are more like vision and dreams but not realistic. You tend to believe in what you see or imagine. Let’s say you have an illusion that you live in a mansion and you’ve got a billion-dollar in your bank account, it could be unrealistic, but that could be the starting point of you taking action to achieve what you have visioned.

Overall, that is the illusion that I must dispel; to stop thinking that I am so good and don’t need to learn anything. Sometimes we have to acknowledge that we might be good at some stuff, but there are things to improve. We cannot just stay on the same knowledge we already have. There is so much to improve and nothing to prove. I am not an expert on this, and I participated in the prompt because I wanted to share what I knew and my thoughts.
