I Am Making Big Money By Selling Out On Medium

That is right! You read correctly! I am selling out. By the way, things are going with my writing. I should be able to hit the billionaire list by February. By springtime, I will have a new mansion with a helicopter landing pad, a Lamborghini, and a yaught so big that it will be legendary. Oh yes, selling out and only writing about trendy topics never felt so good.

However, that is not reality!

A few days ago, while I was scrolling through the comments on my articles, I came across one that wasn’t the most positive. If anything, it was a bit critical without objective justification. This comment accused me of writing about trendy topics since I wrote a few posts on how to help other writers attract more readers on Medium.

The first thing is lately, I have felt inspired to write about this issue. The reason for this is that when I joined Medium a year ago, I was lost. My stories were not getting that much attention, and my efforts appeared flat line. I followed a lot of advice here from a few other writers, which I felt was terrible advice. If I were writing articles on business or marketing or straight reporting, these tips could work, but that is not my style or niche.

The following reason is that I don’t usually write about trending topics. If I did, I would write about politics, the war in Israel, and other things that affect our world. One day, I might touch on these topics, but it isn’t the primary focus.

My writing subjects are primarily on being a single parent and my two teenage boys who have autism, articles on running, and on occasion, I might throw in a different subject that one might accuse of following the trend.

I suppose some of my articles on writing on Medium or writing, in general, have helped my readers out. I think that is great and that they benefited from them on their writing journey.

I have to remind myself in writing, there will always be those who are critical of the work that you do. It’s just like in business. You have a lot of good customers, but you always remember the bad ones.

If some feel I am a sellout for helping my fellow writers, fine. I am sure my kids will enjoy the money I make from this article, and is that a bad thing? I don’t think so.
