I Am Determined To Be A Paid Writer

Most of us here either dream of being a successful writer or already are and use this platform to share tips, tricks, and experiences. I am no exception. However, I currently fall into the category of the former.
I’ve always been a bit of a dreamer. I have my passions, as we all do. Yet, how often do we follow our passions and dreams to the point where they become a reality?
Besides fleeting moments where I wonder what it’s like to be rich, rolling in cash has never really been my goal. However, I would like to be able to live solely off of my writing. And now, I’m more determined than ever to make freelance writing my job. And here are some of the reasons why.
I Have A Strong Work Ethic
Even though I’m still learning about myself and I have many passions yet to discover, one thing I know about myself is that I have a strong work ethic. I love putting in the work and seeing the fruits of my labor. Seeing words and paragraphs of my own words fill the pages of a document has always been deeply satisfying.
Once I get my fingertips on the keyboard or a pen to a page, it’s difficult to get me to stop going. I work until I’m done. I always have.
I Can Work From Anywhere
One of the primary reasons I am determined to make this work is that I want to work from anywhere I end up. I want to have the choice to move away and not worry about what job I’m going to get in the new city I end up living in. I want to travel on occasion and not have my finances limited only by the money I can accrue before leaving.
I want to be able to stay home and work from home when I want to, and I want the ability to spend a day writing in a coffee shop for work if that’s where the day brings me.
As long as I have space and an internet connection, I’ll be able to do my job.
I Can Set My Schedule
Right now, my employer sets my schedule for me.
It’s not too bad, but it can be a hassle to get time off or trade shifts with someone. I want to be able to schedule my work around my life and not the other way around. If I want to give myself a day off, I should be able to do that. If I want to work harder one week and give myself a little bit of a break the next, I think I should be able to do that too.
Writing is My Passion
I’ve always found that words have a particular hold over me, and I think they have a hold over everyone whether or not they consider themselves to be readers. Words can tell stories passed down from generation to generation, and your friends use their carefully chosen words to share the stories of their adventures from last night.
Words paint a picture.
Since I can remember, I’ve always liked telling stories. I started with random stories about cats, moved on to writing shitty fanfiction by age 12, and now enjoy writing articles, journalism, and simply sharing my thoughts. Writing has always been a hobby, but I would now like to make it a little more than just a hobby.
I’d much rather spend my time doing something that I love and have a passion for rather than getting by in a job where I can’t find much room for growth.
Freelance writing certainly may not be for everyone, but I’m confident that I’ll be able to make it work for me. It’ll take time, and overnight success likely isn’t in the cards for me. That won’t hold me back from doing what I want to do.
I’m already a writer. I’m already putting in the work. But it’s time for me to explore the avenues that will lead me into doing this for a living.
I’m starting from scratch, so I don’t mind working hard and waiting for it to pay off. I am determined. And that’s the first step.
