I Am A Writer

An acrostic poem inspired by the first sentence when you woke up this morning

So, last night, after a full-on day, I whispered in my journal the acrostic challenge prompt I read via a Medium post from Dr. Preeti Singh.

“when I wake up in the morning, what’s the first sentence I’ll tell myself.”

I drifted off to sleep, excited about what the day will bring.

As usual, intent as ever, the cock christened the morning sky.

I awoke and the words “I am a writer, thank you for the music, for giving it to me” drifted through my semi-conscious slumber.

My mind shifted into gear.

Gosh, that’s my waking thought!

Swiftly followed by, “whaaaat!!! How am I going to write an acrostic poem about being a writer and giving thanks for the music?

I pondered.

Music… What music?

I could hear the song Thank You For The Music chirping in my heart.

I made a mental note to go onto YouTube later and check it out.

In the meantime, I had an acrostic poem to write.

And if I didn't write it now, I would lose the magic of the moment.

So, I picked up my pen, gathered my journal, sat up and with the tune “thank you for the music” wrote the headline “I Am A Writer.”

With a soft exhale, I jotted my first ever acrostic poem, based on the original challenge prompt set by Agnes Laurenswhen you woke up this morning, what was the first sentence you told yourself?

And here’s what I came up with:

====

I Am A Writer

====

I

Am

A writer.

Writing is what I do.

Reading, scribbling, journalling, all the things

Illuminating my soul

Travelling through my heart, and with profound

Ecstasy

Reveal themselves to the world.

How’s that!

That’s alright, isn’t it?

Not bad for my first ever acrostic poem?

I think I followed the rules.

Feeling grateful for the gift of music (in this case, writing!), I treated myself to a happy shimmy to Abba singing “Thank You For The Music.”

So, dear gentle reader, I invite you, and those listed by Agnes Laurens to write your acrostic poem based on the prompt:

When you woke up this morning, what was the first sentence you told yourself?

Am excited to see what you write.

Tag us and share your awakening words. Thank you.

And full credit, to Dr. Preeti Singh who inspired me to write I Am A Writer after reading her acrostic poem: Hello I Am Awake

and the creator of the challenge Agnes Laurens who wrote the acrostic poem Awake and Not Awake, which you can also read:

Now all the names tagged by Agnes Laurens please join in the fun.

We’re curious about your first sentence.
