Summary

The text is a poetic description of a sunflower's characteristic behavior of turning towards the sun and its inherent beauty.

Abstract

The website content is a lyrical exploration of the nature of a sunflower, which is personified as seeking sunlight actively and constantly. It is described as having a tall green stem and bright yellow flowers that resemble the sun's rays, emanating from a central brown disc. While the sunflower may appear ordinary at first, it possesses a deeper beauty that becomes apparent upon closer inspection. The text likens the sunflower's movement to a satellite dish, always in pursuit of the sun's weakest signals, and emphasizes its ability to reflect the sun's light from its face as if searching for silver linings. The piece concludes with a copyright note, indicating that the text is the intellectual property of Joanne Troppello.

Opinions

  • The sunflower is portrayed as more than just a plant; it is depicted as an active seeker of light, akin to a living creature.
  • The author seems to hold the sunflower in high regard, emphasizing its beauty and the almost spiritual connection it has with the sun.
  • The text suggests a metaphorical interpretation of the sunflower's behavior, possibly as a symbol of hope or the pursuit of positivity.
  • The comparison of the sunflower to a satellite dish indicates a modern and somewhat whimsical perspective on the natural world.
  • The author's appreciation for the sunflower's less obvious qualities implies a broader message about looking beyond the surface to find true beauty and meaning.

I am a Sunflower

Always seeking sunlight

Photo by Aaron Burden on Unsplash

I am a sunflower seeking the sunlight.

Helianthus — helios, the sun and Anthos, the flower.

Tall green stem with terminal capitula on high,

luminous yellow ray florets like sun beams

bursting forth from the brown disc floret inside.

At first glance I may seem ordinary,

but on second look you see my deeper beauty.

I sing my trumpet song as my face seeks the sunlight,

continually tracking the rays across the skyline.

Even the weakest sunlight speaks to me and I seek it.

Like a satellite dish seeking a signal,

I seek to find those silver linings

to be reflected from my bright face.
