Abstract

The poem "Hustled Out" by J.D. Harms, accompanied by an abstract photograph, captures the internal conflict of an individual who wishes to remain in the sanctuary of bed, avoiding the demands of work and the burden of dark thoughts. The speaker describes a futile attempt to find solace in different aspects of life, such as physical exercise and seeking refuge in different corners of their existence. However, they are continually "hustled out" to face reality, which is depicted as a relentless force that disrupts personal peace.

Hustled Out

A Poem

The fir tree sculpture sheer through the light curtains figuring out where to be in the wind I’ve gotten out of bed but I don’t like that I don’t want to work today don’t have any thoughts to darken part of a page Drifting challenges distraction and the understanding lights up like dull grey I even tried stretching working out the kink in my arm but the numbness decided to stay I went into another corner of my life but was hustled out to some version of this one
