Summary

The text "Hush" reflects on the complexities of silence in a relationship, where it can represent both peaceful tranquility and a barrier to communication, highlighting the struggle to bridge the gap caused by unspoken words.

Abstract

"Hush" delves into the paradoxical nature of silence within a relationship, contrasting its serene and suffocating aspects. The author describes a situation where two people share a space, yet are emotionally distant, with silence creating a tension-filled void. Despite the desire to communicate and mend the relationship, the wall of silence persists, filled with unspoken thoughts and feelings. The text suggests that while silence can be a sanctuary for reflection, it can also be a destructive force that hinders resolution and intimacy, emphasizing the importance of verbal communication to heal a fractured bond.

Opinions

  • The author believes that silence can be both comforting and isolating, depending on the context and emotional landscape of the relationship.
  • There is a recognition that non-verbal cues can convey meaning, but they are insufficient substitutes for direct communication.
  • The text conveys a sense of frustration and longing to overcome the silence that has grown between the individuals.
  • The author values the power of words and believes that speaking can prevent misunderstandings and preserve love, even if it means confronting difficult conversations.
  • There is an underlying hope that by breaking the silence, the couple can address their issues and rebuild trust, avoiding the regret that comes from letting anger fester.

Hush

You speak volumes when you say nothing at all.

Silence is golden, Peaceful and tranquil, Putting your soul to rest even, When it is surrounding two people, Not the space between them, Suffocating them with tension and apathy, I need a map to find my way, To bridge the distance between us, Reverse your heart being so far away, Even when we are sharing the same bed, I turn a cold shoulder to you, You pretend I’m not even alive, Shutting me out, Blocking my every attempt, To break the silence between us, I can almost read your mind, Hear your thoughts, Know what you were going to say, If you were to decide to speak, In the place of allowing your body language, To do all the talking, There are so many things I would love to say to you, But I don’t know how, Or even where to start, I don’t know what to say, I wish we could sever this wall of solitude, I feel your anger, But not the cause, We cannot repair, Our broken bonds of trust, If we do not first break the barrier of sound, Communicate intimately, Because my love, Even though we are not talking, It is better than vile words spoken in anger, That we will later regret, You know I love you and you I, You don’t have to say a thing, I know what you are going to say, Because you can say a mouthful, Before a sound is ever uttered from your lips, Because you can say a mouthful, Your silence speaks volumes, Even when you say nothing at all.
