Humanoid Nature Study
A poem about nature, nurture, and other things in the dark
Nature or nurture, that is the question. Or, perhaps neither.
Look at Ted Bundy.
Who knows what made him? A combination of nature and nurture? Coupled with bad luck. Ask the victims.
Will a nature study help? Behavioral experimentation, perhaps? to see which kinds of ill treatment as a child leads one to maim, kill, rape, brutalize, as an adult
A well designed, repeatable experiment, say, which will predictably mark those destined similarly
An experiment designed to regurgitate serial killers in a continuous spittle of malice and mayhem
Because there will be no end to human depravity To be human is to hide the worst, squirrel it away
Darkness cloaks darkness, and to be inhuman, first one has to be human
No other species qualifies!
That is, in essence, a humanoid nature study, isn’t it? A study of what a human being decides to hide.
Because what one hides is what one is.
