Summary

The article emphasizes the importance of avoiding three types of debts: money, time, and mercy, which are detrimental to personal success and growth.

Abstract

The article "Humans Have Only 3 Debts" discusses the concept of debt beyond financial obligations, highlighting the dangers of accumulating debts in three critical areas of life: money, time, and mercy. While money debt through loans can initially seem beneficial for growth, it can become burdensome if not managed properly. Time debt, akin to procrastination, is portrayed as particularly hazardous due to the irreplaceable nature of time. Mercy debt, which occurs when one fails to reciprocate or add value after receiving help, is seen as harmful to self-respect and personal development. The article underscores the necessity of minimizing these debts for a successful and fulfilling life, suggesting the development of solid habits to eliminate time debt and advocating for a proactive approach to mercy to avoid mercy debt.

Opinions

  • Money debt, such as student loans, car loans, and mortgages, can be a double-edged sword, offering opportunities for success but also posing significant risks if not handled responsibly.
  • Time debt is equated with procrastination and considered more critical than money debt due to the finite nature of time; it suggests that while money can be earned, time lost can never be regained.
  • The article suggests that developing solid habits is crucial to reducing time debt and that habits formed during school years can significantly impact one's ability to manage time effectively in adulthood.
  • Mercy debt is seen as detrimental to self-respect and growth, with the author advising that one should always aim to provide value in return for kindness received to maintain a debt-free and successful life.
  • The author quotes Henry Wheeler Shaw and Abraham Lincoln to reinforce the ideas that debt is a trap that is easy to fall into but hard to escape and that mercy yields better results than strict justice.
  • The article concludes by cautioning against taking advantage of others, implying that such behavior is counterproductive to success and healthy relationships.

And developed Solid habits to make your time debt Zero: a few of them are below:

Mercy Debt: As a human being, mercy is good, but mercy debt is not good for self-respect and self-growth. If someone does something for you, you must return him, add value in advance before asking for anything in return.

I have always found that mercy bears richer fruits than strict justice.
